Chinle-Many Farms and St. Michaels-Window Rock-Fort Defiance Multimodal Long Range Transportation Study

Project Summary:

This study will prepare two multimodal long range transportation corridor plans, one for the Chinle-Many Farms study area corridor, and one for the St. Michaels-Window Rock-Fort Defiance study area corridor. Each of these five communities have been designated as major growth centers for development and economic activity on the Navajo Nation. The study planning process will conduct an analysis of multimodal transportation needs using a combination of resident and road user input coupled with transportation analysis to develop two transportation master plans that recommend multimodal transportation improvements for five, ten, and twenty year planning horizons. The key study objectives include: promote travel safety and mobility, enhance economic vitality, and improve community livability; support current and future planning for economic and community development; address multimodal transportation needs for vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle transportation; address intermodal connections between vehicular, airport and transit systems for commuter and emergency needs; and recommend transportation improvements including impacts to the Navajo Nation’s total and regional transportation system.

The Chinle-Many Farms and St. Michaels-Window Rock-Fort Defiance Multimodal Long Range Transportation Study will be conducted according to a cooperative planning process involving stakeholders that include public agency staff, elected tribal officials, and tribal community members.  Throughout the study, information will be presented to and solicited from stakeholders through individual interviews, public meetings, and other means of communication.
